Our company

Goodfish is the new trading name for an established tool-making and injection moulding company, formerly known as Hi-Spec Precision Toolmakers Ltd. The business is now under new management, led by Greg McDonald, whose background includes working in the City for investment banks and a hedge fund, as well as time served on the shop floor of a steel foundry in Burton on Trent, a business he went on to turn around and grow in his position as MD from 1993-2000.

Goodfish has continued to retain the focus of the business on injection moulding & tool-making, whilst adding a third leg in the form of mould component decoration and assembly. This additional leg is based on the expertise that Goodfish management has brought in from their previous experience working at Artform International in Loughborough, a leading UK vertically-integrated designer and manufacturer of point-of-sale displays for the cosmetics, consumer electronics and tobacco industries.

As well as new skills, Goodfish has invested in systems and controls to ensure its lean manufacturing expertise delivers productivity and service improvements. Goodfish is also investing in a new injection-moulding press, to extend its range from 55-550t up to 800t. This extended capability will be effective from Dec-11.

And, finally, Goodfish is currently in the process of hiring a full-time QA Manager for the business, to ensure the investment in quality and processes results in a first-rate service for existing and new clients in the UK and Europe.

At GoodFish, we apply lean manufacturing principles in an integrated, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility to deliver a completed assembly at lower total cost than can be sourced overseas. We call this 'on-shoring'.

What we do...

We do everything inside the blue oval. We can source printing, acrylic fabrications and vacuum formings from local, key suppliers.

Project management at GoodFish is part of our DNA, as everything is manufactured in one, state-of-the-art facility. This facility is run along lean principles (one-piece), so our lead-times are industry-leading.

Our Equipment...

...is all new! How many UK manufacturers can say that?

Our factory looks like an injection-moulding equipment showroom; more specifically, a Negri Bossi showroom. That's because GoodFish has invested millions in a suite of 15 Negri Bossi injection moulding machines with a tonnage range from 90t to 550t. But that's not the end of it: we also have 2 brand-new 55t Boy injection moulding machines for the smaller stuff.

Plus, we have invested in all the latest material preparation ancilliaries to ensure that the materials going into our machines are optimally prepared for processing.

On top of that, we have our own in-house tool-room, with the latest CNC, EDM and wire-eroding equipment and long-serving, highly-skilled toolmakers.

Our Clients...

...prefer us to keep their work confidential. That's not an issue for us. We're used to working with the best: firms that compete tooth-and-nail with one another in the market, so we respect their requirements for confidentiality. We also recognise that we are involved at the early stage of new product launches, given our involvement with merchandising displays, so there's another reason not to tempt the industrial spying community to visit us on a 'supplier audit'.

Our current client base covers the following sectors:

  • Automotive

  • Building Materials

  • Drinks Promotion

  • Energy

  • Metering

  • Flooring

  • Golf

  • Lighting

  • Packaging

  • Point of Sale
